On the occasion of “March 8, International Women’s Day“, the Salih Tatlici Foundation has made a donation to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), whose theme for this year is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” and whose work is based on respect for human rights and culture, and whose goal of achieving gender equality to create prosperous economies and a healthy planet is more important today than ever before. A certificate of appreciation has been presented to the Foundation for the donation.

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “As wives and mothers, our women assume very important responsibilities in every aspect of society. Our women, who make every moment of our lives more special and beautiful, are also the main dynamic that forms the foundation of nations. It is the fundamental and common responsibility of our society to prepare the conditions that will enable our women, who are the foundation of the family institution, the representative, carrier and protector of our values, to participate effectively in all areas of life. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)
UNFPA was founded in 1969 as the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, the same year the United Nations General Assembly declared that “parents have the right to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children”. The name was changed to the United Nations Population Fund in 1987.
UNFPA’s goal is to ensure sexual and reproductive rights and choices for all, especially women and young people, so that they have access to high quality sexual and reproductive health services, including voluntary family planning, maternal health services and comprehensive sexuality education.
The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo made women’s empowerment and autonomy the foundation for sustainable economic and social progress. The ICPD Action Program, adopted by 179 governments in Cairo, and the 2019 Nairobi Declaration, a commitment to this program in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, have guided its work ever since.
