Our women, who make every moment of our lives more special and beautiful, are also the main dynamic that forms the foundation of nations. It is the fundamental and common responsibility of our society to prepare the conditions that will enable our women, who are the foundation of the family institution, the representative, carrier and protector of our values, to participate effectively in all areas of life. As the Foundation, we sincerely congratulate our women, the source of love, who are the most important element of peaceful, happy and healthy family unity that strengthens the structure of society and forms and shapes its cornerstones, and we wish all our women a healthy, happy and peaceful life and we present our love and respect.”

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

UNFPA was founded in 1969 as the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, the same year the United Nations General Assembly declared that “parents have the right to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children”. The name was changed to the United Nations Population Fund in 1987.

UNFPA’s goal is to ensure sexual and reproductive rights and choices for all, especially women and young people, so that they have access to high quality sexual and reproductive health services, including voluntary family planning, maternal health services and comprehensive sexuality education.

The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo made women’s empowerment and autonomy the foundation for sustainable economic and social progress. The ICPD Action Program, adopted by 179 governments in Cairo, and the 2019 Nairobi Declaration, a commitment to this program in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, have guided its work ever since.

UNFPA operates in more than 150 countries and territories that are home to the vast majority of the world’s people. Its mission: To ensure that every pregnancy is the way it was intended, every birth is safe and every young person’s potential is realized.

Guided by the 1994 Action Programme of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), UNFPA partners with governments, civil society and other organizations to advance its mission. UNFPA’s work is based on the premise that all people have equal rights and the right to protection.

“Happy Women’s Day to All Women Who Make the World Beautiful”

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Women are the most important values of society. All women in the world and our country deserve to be carried on the shoulders rather than being subjected to violence, excluded, belittled, and marginalized. Women are symbols of power, love, and tolerance. We must provide all kinds of support to increase the value and success of all women. As the Foundation, we wholeheartedly celebrate this meaningful day of all women.”

Foundation for Women’s Solidarity

Since its official foundation in 1993, the Foundation for Women’s Solidarity is an independent women’s organization that aims to combat all kinds of violence against women through women’s solidarity, builds solidarity with women who have been subjected to violence, and works with feminist principles.

The foundation has its origins in the “Women’s Debate Group” formed by a group of activist women in Ankara in 1987. This group is of great importance in the history of the women’s movement as it regularly came together in consciousness-raising meetings, shared experiences of womanhood, and helped raise awareness about the prevalence of violence against women. Following the experiences accumulated at these meetings, steps were taken to address the need to open a Women’s Counselling Centre where women exposed to violence could receive free support. The first of these steps was the first “Women’s Counselling Centre” in Ankara, which opened in 1991 in cooperation with a municipality.

The Foundation for Women’s Solidarity contributes to social change to end the legitimacy of violence against women by creating pressure on women’s human rights through its public and media activities. It also carries out awareness-raising activities on combating violence against women through various training programs for women who apply to the Women’s Counselling Centre, volunteers of the Foundation, and professional staff. The Foundation generates financial resources through donations and member contributions from various institutions, organizations, and individuals, sustains its existence with the support of volunteer employees and carries out public information and advocacy activities on violence against women.
