As a foundation, we have made a donation to Compassion in World Farming, a UK-based organization that peacefully campaigns to end factory farming and create sustainable food systems that benefit animals, people, and the planet. In recognition of our support, the organization has presented our Foundation with a certificate of appreciation.
Factory Farming Is the Leading Cause of Animal Cruelty on Our Planet
Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our foundation, stated:
“Factory farming contributes significantly to climate change and places immense pressure on ecosystems. Nearly half of the world’s habitable land is used for agriculture, posing a serious threat to wildlife and the planet’s future.
Factory farming is a system of intensive agriculture that prioritizes productivity above all, producing seemingly cheap meat, dairy, and eggs at the cost of immense animal suffering. Even today, billions of farm animals around the world endure inhumane conditions in factory farms, deprived of everything that makes life worth living.
Our broken food system continues to devastate the planet. Everyone deserves access to healthy food that is free from cruelty, suffering, and environmental harm. As a foundation, we consider it our duty to support Compassion in World Farming in its efforts to reduce dependence on animals for food and to promote sustainable farming practices that help animals, nature, people, and the planet thrive together.”
About Compassion in World Farming
Compassion in World Farming was founded over 50 years ago by Peter Roberts, an English farmer who became deeply concerned by the rise of modern, intensive factory farming. Having lived a traditional farming life and earned a degree in agriculture, Peter was initially a dairy farmer. However, he grew increasingly alarmed by the post-war direction of farming, particularly the widespread use of cages and crates.
After seeing his concerns ignored by animal welfare charities, Peter and his wife Anna established Compassion in World Farming in 1967. What began as a small protest in a back room has grown into a powerful global movement that has achieved lasting improvements in farm animal welfare.
Today, Compassion is a rapidly expanding international force that actively engages in major decision-making platforms such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. Through global partnerships and the support of countless advocates, the organization continues to drive comprehensive change in farming to improve the lives of billions of farm animals worldwide.
