From our earliest moments in the world, mothers care for their children with patience, wisdom, compassion, and kindness. They teach us how to love and help us face both the triumphs and challenges of life.
Mothers are always by our side — a constant source of comfort, reassurance, and inspiration. Their love transcends time, generations, and circumstances.
On this Mother’s Day, we honor every extraordinary mother who enriches our lives through her unconditional love, warmth, support, and devotion, and who helps shape our culture and our communities.
On this occasion, our Foundation has made a donation to Mothers’ Union, an organization committed to creating a peaceful and secure environment for all, advocating for gender justice, and empowering individuals through confidence-building and support.
About Mothers’ Union
The Mothers’ Union movement began in 1876, when Mary Sumner, the wife of a clergyman in Hampshire, founded a group to support all mothers in raising their children. After addressing churchgoing women at the Portsmouth Church Congress in 1885, she inspired many to return to their own parishes and establish similar groups.
These groups soon came together as the Mothers’ Union, becoming a part of their local communities and forming strong ties with the Anglican Church. While supporting each other and giving voice to disadvantaged women, they also began addressing broader social issues.
Driven by Mary Sumner’s passion for women’s role in building a better society, the movement grew rapidly. By 1892, membership had reached 60,000 across 28 dioceses and would grow to 169,000 by the early 1900s. In 1893, annual general meetings began, and in 1896, the Central Council of the Mothers’ Union was established.
In 2026, the Mothers’ Union will celebrate its 150th anniversary, with four million members active across 83 countries.
