Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation’s, said, “Activities to raise public awareness about the protection of World Heritage should be supported. Technical assistance and professional training should be provided to help countries protect their World Heritage properties. Emergency assistance should be provided to World Heritage sites at risk. The participation of local communities in the protection of their cultural and natural heritage should be encouraged. As a Foundation, we have also made a donation to the UNESCO fund, which is conducting very serious work in this area.”

UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is a United Nations agency that aims to protect world peace and security through international cooperation in the fields of education, arts, science, and culture. The law establishing this agency was adopted in November 1945 at a meeting in London attended by representatives from 44 countries. Headquartered in Paris, UNESCO has three organs: the General Conference, the Executive Board, and the Secretariat. It strives to achieve its objectives in the fields of education, science, and culture through National Commissions established in each member state.

UNESCO is a non-profit intergovernmental organization. Contributions made by individuals and institutions to the UNESCO World Heritage Center are used in projects carried out by experts to protect World Heritage sites around the world. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage is both an irreplaceable way of life and a source of inspiration. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) aims to encourage the identification, protection, and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world that is considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. This is embodied in an international agreement adopted by UNESCO in 1972, known as the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is its universal applicability. World Heritage sites belong to all the peoples of the world, regardless of the territory in which they are located.

The donations and aid projects mentioned here were made by the founders of our Foundation, Nurten Tatlıcı and her son Uğur Tatlıcı, in memory of the late Salih Tatlıcı, the benevolent person whose name continues to live on through our Foundation and whom they bid farewell in journey to eternity in 2009.
