Our Foundation Supports HSI Society Fighting Against Animal Abuse

As Salih Tatlıcı Foundation, we donated again to “Humane Society International“, an organisation that improves the welfare of animals in more than 50 countries, works worldwide to improve the human-animal bond, rescue and protect dogs and cats, improve the welfare of farm animals, protect wildlife, promote animal-free testing and research, intervene, and work against disasters and all kinds of cruelty to animals. A certificate of appreciation was presented to our Foundation by the organisation regarding the donation.

We Cannot Take Away The Right To Life Of Our Dear Friends

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Every year, millions of animals are used for medical and academic reasons for sectors such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Experiments disrupt the body integrity of animals and often cause their death. Animals and humans have different biological structures. Therefore, a test performed on a rabbit, mouse or monkey cannot be 100 per cent adapted to the human body. It is necessary to support efforts to protect all animals worldwide, including those exposed to the cat and dog meat trade, those suffering in laboratories and factory farms, and those abused in the wild. As the Foundation, we took it as our duty to donate once again to Humane Society International, an organisation that fights against animal abuse and works to promote a cruelty-free lifestyle for all animals.”

It also effectively and humanely combats the dog meat trade and pet overpopulation in underdeveloped countries. Eighty-five per cent of its funds are spent on animal protection programmes, from ending the cruel dog meat trade to combating horrific forms of wildlife abuse.

We Supported the Realisation of a Christmas Dream

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “For many people, Christmas means an abundant table full of traditional New Year’s dishes. But this is not the case for everyone. As a foundation, we have donated to the DARA Institute, which strives to promote health and human development through the implementation and dissemination of an integrated multidisciplinary approach to poverty alleviation. We wish everyone good health and happiness in 2024 with the hope of living in a healthy and sustainable world where everyone has the same opportunities and rights, enabling people to be leading players in their own development.”

Instituto DARA

The Dara Institute is a non-governmental organisation working to promote health and human development by implementing and developing an integrated approach to combating poverty.

Dara is a name built over three decades and is associated with the complete transformation of thousands of families. The original meaning of the word is “star” in the Asian Sanskrit Khmer language, strengthened by centuries of memories and hardship. A pioneer in cross-sectoral work on the social determinants of health around the world, the organisation was founded in 1991 by Dr Vera Cordeiro, as well as a group of professionals from Hospital da Lagoa in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Due to the multidimensional nature of poverty, Dara believes that the social transformation of vulnerable families is only possible if different areas of human development are addressed simultaneously and in an integrated manner. For this reason, Dara has developed the Plano de Ação Familiar (PAF – Family Action Plan) social methodology, designed according to the needs of each family.

To fulfil its mission, the Institute directly assists vulnerable families, promotes knowledge on human development, works to influence public policies and mobilise civil society.

For ten consecutive years (until 2022), Dara has been recognised as the best NGO in Latin America and the 20th in the world. Throughout its history, the institute has received awards and recognition for its work and has directly impacted the lives of more than 85,000 socially vulnerable people in Brazil and indirectly more than 1,000,000 people on four continents.

Throughout its history, Dara’s impact has been made possible by the work of more than 1600 volunteers, over 100 employees and a network of partnerships. The Dara Institute is headquartered in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), with offices in Brasília (DF), São Paulo (SP) and New York (USA).

Respect for people with disabilities is respect for humanity. We can overcome obstacles together and support each other. Obstacles are difficulties that can be overcome with strong will. The determination of disabled people teaches us how strong we can be in life. As the Foundation, we have donated to “Pasitos de Luz” in Mexico in order to provide the necessary support to all disabled people in the world regardless of religion, language, race, region and gender. As the Foundation, we will continue our support and efforts for a world that embraces the disabled. Happy 3 December International Day of Persons with Disabilities.”

Support from our Foundation to the United Nations

Our Foundation has donated to the Israel Representative Office of “UNHCR-The United Nations Refugee Agency“, which provides compassion to refugees and works on basic protection issues including refugee rights, reception conditions of asylum seekers, durable solutions, protection of children. UNHCR presented a certificate of appreciation to our Foundation for the donation.

Everyone In Need Should Have The Right To Seek Asylum.

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Every individual who has fled violence, persecution, war or disaster in their own country should be able to exercise their right to seek asylum and access protection in safety. It is a humanitarian duty to provide vital assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons and stateless people who have no one else to turn to for support. We, as the Foundation, donated to the “UNHCR – United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees” – Israel Representative Office, which works to save the lives of millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes and to build a better future for them. Turkey plays an important role in the global migration waves that have increased in recent years and hosts millions of migrants and asylum seekers. With this donation, we aim to encourage other countries in the region, such as Israel, to share the burden of the migrant and refugee problem with Turkey. Supporting Turkey’s efforts in this regard is of great importance for regional stability and solidarity. We hope to see increased efforts to ensure that everyone in need has the right to seek asylum and access to safe protection in another country.”

UNHCR-The United Nations Refugee Agency

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established in 1950 to help millions of Europeans who had fled or lost their homes after World War II. Its term of office was set to expire after three years, during which time UNHCR had to complete its work.

Today, 73 years later, the organisation is still hard at work, protecting and assisting refugees around the world. In 1954, UNHCR won the Nobel Peace Prize for its groundbreaking work in Europe. In 1981, UNHCR was awarded a second Nobel Peace Prize for its assistance to refugees worldwide.

In the early 21st century, UNHCR provided assistance in major refugee crises in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. At the same time, when asked to use its expertise to assist persons internally displaced by conflict, UNHCR expanded its role by assisting stateless persons. The 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees was strengthened by additional regional and legal instruments adopted in some parts of the world, such as Africa and Latin America.

Celebrating its 73rd anniversary in 2023, UNHCR has helped more than 50 million refugees successfully re-enter the world.

UNHCR first established a presence in Israel in March 1976 when it opened a small ‘Honorary Correspondent’ office. Zina Harman, a career Israeli Diplomat and former Member of Knesset, was appointed UNHCR’s first Honorary Correspondent, a post she held until 1999. In the late 1990s, the number of asylum seekers in Israel began to increase steadily and this new development gave acceleration to the Government and UNHCR to start a constructive dialogue on how to establish a national refugee status determination (RSD) procedure and create a better solution.

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Animal testing on millions of mice, rabbits, dogs, cats and other animals around the world must stop at once. Animals should no longer be harmed or exploited for human interests and should be allowed to live their lives in peace. It is necessary to support efforts to protect and end cruelty to all animals worldwide, including and especially those exposed to the cat and dog meat trade, those suffering in laboratories and factory farms, and those abused in the wild. Innocent Civilians, Women, Children And Infants Should Not Be Targeted By Missiles

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: As it has been doing for more than fifty years, the Israeli government attacks places of worship and massacres innocent civilians, women, children and infants in Gaza. Firing missiles at a hospital where defenceless people are waiting for treatment is inhuman. No matter who does it for what purpose; it is unacceptable to make civilians, women, children and babies the target of missiles. Our anger is not against the Israeli people or Jews, but against the occupying and expansionist Israeli Administration. It is the humanitarian and moral duty of all of us to condemn this inhuman behavior and to support the cause of the Palestinian people, to resist oppression and to protect the oppressed. As a foundation, we supported the “Big Heart Foundation”, which operates for the friendly and brotherly Palestinian people who are victims of Israel’s unlawful occupation and persecution. On this occasion, we hope that diplomatic efforts will be concluded positively as soon as possible, Israel’s occupation and persecution will end and peace will be established permanently.”

Big Heart Foundation

Initially established as a fundraising campaign in 2013, the Big Heart Foundation became a full-fledged foundation in 2015 and has continued through various initiatives and campaigns launched by Sheikha Jawaher Bent Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

The Foundation’s mission is to protect and empower vulnerable children and their families in vulnerable situations around the world. Our Foundation Supports “Private Fener Greek Secondary School and High School”

Our Foundation has donated to the “Private Fener Greek Secondary School and High School“, which was established in 1454 in the Fener quarter of Istanbul with the edict of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror and has been providing education for more than 500 years.

We Support All Organisations Operating For Charitable Purposes

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “The “Private Fener Greek Secondary School and High School”, which was established with the Sultan’s edict to enable the Orthodox in Istanbul to receive education in their own language, and which has educated many Fenerian Greeks, Chief Translators, Lords of Wallachia and Bogdan, Patriarchs and High Religious Officials who served in high positions in the Ottoman Empire, has an indispensable place in our mosaic of history and culture.  We are delighted to support the Private Fener Greek Secondary School and High School, which is not only a school but also a symbol of tolerance and coexistence, bringing different cultures together.”

Private Fener Secondary School and High School

Fener Greek Secondary School and High School is one of the oldest and most magnificent schools in history, founded in 1454 in the Fener quarter of Istanbul. The school was also known as “Patriarchate Academy”, “Red School” or “First Academy”, “Great School”.

Providing education for more than 500 years, the school continued its activities under different names before the conquest of Istanbul and took its current name inspired by the Fener quarter where it is located. After the conquest of Istanbul, the ruling class and merchants of Byzantium left the city and took refuge in the Aegean islands, Italy and France. When Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror recalled all the Orthodox of Constantinople to the city in 1454, he declared that the Orthodox would be able to study in their own language, reinstate their Patriarchate and worship freely as before. Upon this, the Greeks who had left Istanbul returned to the city in groups.

The magnificent building that has survived to the present day was built between 1880-1882 by the architect Dimadis. Architect Konstantinos Dimadis, one of the most important architects of the nineteenth century and a graduate of the Fener Greek Boys’ High School, brought most of the building materials from Marseille. Dimadis, who also built castles in various European countries, especially in Italy and Spain, completed the work in a short period of two years.

The present building of the school, which was constructed on the Fener ridges on the fifth hill of Istanbul, is one of the most magnificent buildings on the Golden Horn with its wide and high facade, red fire bricks and the flamboyant domed tower in the centre.

In 1903, a department of Classical Philology and Pedagogy was added to the school to train primary school teachers. After the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, the school was renamed Fener Greek Boys’ High School. In 1989, the school accepted students from the adjacent Ioakeimeion Girls’ High School and has been operating as “Private Fener Greek Secondary School and High School” with co-education since then.

The Second Water Fountain Built in Africa by Our Foundation Entered into Operation

As the Salih Tatlici Foundation, we continue our cooperation with the IDEA Universal Association, which carries out innovative and scientific projects to sustainably solve the water, food, energy and education problems of the earth.

We built our second water fountain in Africa in Kijuni Village in Tanzania. 370 people living in this village now have permanent access to clean water. Life in Kijuni Village has now become easier, equal and fair.

For the people in this village, the difficult journey to water that was not even clean has ended. This means that children can spend more time playing and studying. Women can participate in economic life and socialise.

IDEA Universal presented the Foundation with a certificate of appreciation for the donation.
