United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

UNFPA was founded in 1969 as the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, the same year the United Nations General Assembly declared that “parents have the right to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children”. The name was changed to the United Nations Population Fund in 1987.

UNFPA’s goal is to ensure sexual and reproductive rights and choices for all, especially women and young people, so that they have access to high quality sexual and reproductive health services, including voluntary family planning, maternal health services and comprehensive sexuality education.

The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo made women’s empowerment and autonomy the foundation for sustainable economic and social progress. The ICPD Action Program, adopted by 179 governments in Cairo, and the 2019 Nairobi Declaration, a commitment to this program in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, have guided its work ever since.

UNFPA operates in more than 150 countries and territories that are home to the vast majority of the world’s people. Its mission: To ensure that every pregnancy is the way it was intended, every birth is safe and every young person’s potential is realized.

We Commemorate the Late Salih Tatlıcı on the 15th Anniversary of his Demise by Supporting the Environment

As it is known, our Foundation was established by Nurten Tatlıcı, the wife of the late businessman Salih Tatlıcı, and Uğur Tatlıcı, their son, to keep the name “Salih Tatlıcı” alive.

As the Salih Tatlici Foundation, we commemorate the 15th anniversary of Salih Tatlıcı’s death today with respect and longing.

On this occasion, we, as the Foundation, made a donation to TEMA, the Turkish Foundation for Combating Erosion, Reforestation and Protection of Natural Habitats, to support our forest areas, which are the guarantee of our future. A certificate was presented to our Foundation by TEMA for the donation.

We Will Continue Our Support To Increase Our Forest Areas

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said the following; “My late father attached great importance to nature and said: ‘In order to live in a clean world, we should protect our existing forests very well and encourage the planting of more trees at every opportunity to produce new forest areas’. Protecting nature and leaving a healthy environment consisting of clean air, water and soil for future generations is one of the main goals of our Foundation. For this reason, in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the death of my esteemed father Salih Tatlıcı, we have donated to TEMA, which has been carrying out very important activities for many years to protect natural assets and develop afforestation areas, as well as combating erosion and desertification in our country. We will always continue to do our part to protect nature and the environment.”

TEMA Foundation, Our Leading Organisation In The Combating Erosion And Desertification

TEMA, the Turkish Foundation for Combating Erosion, Reforestation and Protection of Natural Habitats, commonly known as TEMA, was founded on 11 September 1992 by businessmen Hayrettin Karaca and A. Nihat Koçyiğit with the slogan “Turkey should not be a desert“. Karaca and Koçyiğit, known as Grandfather Earth and Grandfather Leaf to the wider public and supported by nature lovers for their pioneering initiatives in this field, took very important steps to prevent the desertification of our country as the founding honorary presidents of the foundation.

TEMA Foundation, which continues its activities as a voluntary, conscious, pioneering, international and reputable Non-Governmental Organisation that works science-based for the protection of all natural assets, especially our soils, with the principle of sustainable life, believes in social peace coming from the soil, integrates with the public, has influence on the future of the country and the world, carries out afforestation works to create new forest areas in all cities of our country. In addition, TEMA Foundation draws attention as a pioneering organisation that organises educational activities to improve environmental awareness, carries out social responsibility projects for rural development and the establishment of new environmental policies, develops cooperation with the world’s leading environmental protection organisations, especially the United Nations, and has won international awards for all these activities.

Late Salih Tatlıcı Commemorated on 15th Death Anniversary

We are deeply saddened by the loss of my dear husband, my dear father. In the 15th year since he left us in deep pain, his absence continues to hurt us like an irreparable wound, and we feel an indescribable longing.

As the “Salih Tatlıcı Foundation”, which we have established to keep his name alive, as can be seen on our website, we continue to support associations and foundations established in the country and abroad that work in various fields to ensure a better life for all living things in the world, especially humans, and to protect nature.

In addition, this year, with the awareness of the importance he had always attached to education, we, as the Foundation, are experiencing the pleasure and pride of starting to provide scholarships to a large number of university students in cooperation with the centuries-old Darüşşafaka Society, one of the well-established educational institutions of our country.

Rest in peace, may your place be in heaven.

4 February World Cancer Day Donation from our Foundation

On the occasion of World Cancer Day on 4 February, our Foundation has donated to “The Brazilian Cancer Foundation“, a non-profit foundation based in Brazil, which promotes strategic actions for the prevention and control of cancer on behalf of the general public, raises funds and invests in programs and projects related to cancer prevention, early detection, as well as palliative care and research. A certificate of appreciation was presented to our Foundation from the aforementioned organisation.

We Can Defeat Cancer by Fighting Together

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “It is possible together to build a future where people live healthier lives and have better access to health and cancer services regardless of where they were born, where they grew up, and regardless of their age! It is necessary to know, care, protect against cancer and take early action without delaying the diagnosis. On the occasion of 4 February World Cancer Day, we, as the Foundation, wish a speedy recovery to all our citizens who are struggling with this disease, which requires a difficult and long treatment, and to all cancer patients around the world.”

THE BRAZILIAN CANCER FOUNDATION

The Brazilian Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 under the legal name Fundação Ary Frauzino para Pesquisa e Controle do Câncer, paying homage to the doctor who directed INCA from 1980 to 1985. As the original name of the foundation was a bit long, it soon became known as Ary Frauzino. In 2008, the name was simplified and the brand reformulated to facilitate communication with all sectors of society. The legal name Fundação Ary Frauzino para Pesquisa e Controle do Câncer was retained, but the simpler name Cancer Foundation was also adopted for public communication. In addition to the summary name, the slogan “with you for life” was added to more succinctly convey the lifelong commitment to everyone’s life and health. The symbol of the new trademark was inspired by the awareness ribbons used to encourage people to sign up to great causes. The best known of these is the red ribbon symbolising the fight against AIDS. However, each colour symbolises a different cause. The ribbon used by the Cancer Foundation is purple, symbolising the fight to defeat cancer.

The Brazilian Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organisation that raises funds and invests in programmes and projects related to cancer prevention, early detection, assistance, bone marrow and umbilical cord blood transplantation, as well as palliative care and research. Its mission is to promote strategic actions for the prevention and control of cancer on behalf of society at large, as well as to support the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA) and all the activities of the Brazilian National Cancer Control Programme. It also provides consultancy services to states and municipalities throughout Brazil to improve their processes in cancer treatment (Oncological Attention Plan).

Support for Eurogroup For Animal’s from our Foundation

As a Foundation, we have donated to “EUROGROUP FOR ANIMALS“, an organisation based in Belgium, which peacefully campaigns for the protection and against the abuse of animals. A certificate of appreciation was presented to our Foundation by the organisation.

We Support All Efforts For A Society Where Animals Are Valued And Respected As Sentient Beings

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Animals should not be harmed or exploited for human interests, and they should be allowed to live their lives in peace. All people should recognise and respect the rights of animals and these should be protected by law. As the Foundation, we felt it our duty to donate to the organisation “EUROGROUP FOR ANIMALS”, which fights against animal abuse and works to promote a cruelty-free lifestyle for all animals.”

EUROGROUP FOR ANIMALS

Eurogroup for Animals has been bringing together animal advocates across Europe for over 40 years. It calls on decision-makers to create positive change and deliver coordinated advocacy and campaigns at EU level to measurably improve animal protection. Its vision is a Europe that values and respects animals as sentient beings. As a pan-European animal protection organisation, Eurogroup for Animals’ main focus is to work in the interests of a society in which animals are valued and respected as sentient beings. Through a united network, it protects animals by ensuring better legislation, the highest standards and enforcement, and promoting social change. It has launched major campaigns and petitions across Europe to mobilise public support for animal welfare issues and to join campaigns organised by its member organisations.

The donations and aid projects mentioned here were made by the founders of our Foundation, Nurten Tatlıcı and her son Uğur Tatlıcı, in memory of the late Salih Tatlıcı, the benevolent person whose name continues to live on through our Foundation and whom they bid farewell in journey to eternity in 2009.

Our Foundation Supports the Fight Against Cancer

Our Foundation has donated to the Danish Cancer Society, a century-old organisation that works in three main areas (research, information and patient support) to support experimental and clinical cancer research, disseminate knowledge about the nature and treatment of cancer and provide support to cancer patients in need. A certificate of appreciation was presented to our Foundation from the society.

Efforts to Fight Against Cancer Should Be Supported

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Cancer affects many people in our society. A strong and active work is required for a cancer-free life. As Salih Tatlıcı Foundation, we are honoured to donate to the Danish Cancer Society, which has been conducting research and studies for more than 100 years for fewer people to get cancer, more people to survive cancer and a better life with and after cancer.”

Danish Cancer Society

The foundation stone of the Danish Cancer Society was laid in 1904-05, when leading Danish doctors decided to make an effort to fight cancer. This was done by forming the Cancer Committee of the General Danish Medical Association. At that time, the cancer-curing effect of radium had just been discovered. The aim of the committee was to raise money for the purchase of radium. Upon the death of Frederik VIII in 1912, a nationwide fundraiser was organised for the newly established Radium Foundation, which was tasked with establishing and running radium stations (cancer hospitals) where cancer patients could be treated with radium. In 1928, the National Association of the Danish Cancer Society was founded by merging the activities and financing of the Cancer Committee and the Radium Foundation.

When the National Association of the Danish Cancer Society was founded in 1928, the association’s most important task was to treat cancer patients. It was also to support experimental and clinical cancer research, to disseminate knowledge about the nature and treatment of cancer and to provide support to cancer patients in need. The last three areas are in fact the same areas in which the Society works today: research, information and assistance to patients and their relatives, whereas today treatment is undertaken by the public sector.

However, other areas of focus, notably cancer research, were also important, and it was precisely this research that the association chose to strengthen throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In 1962, the operation of the radium stations was transferred to the state, which also provided increasing operational support. Today, the Danish Cancer Society still works in three main areas (research, knowledge and patient support). The voice of the Danish Cancer Society has weight, as it is one of the largest associations in the country and represents many members and active volunteers.

Our Foundation Supports HSI Society Fighting Against Animal Abuse

As Salih Tatlıcı Foundation, we donated again to “Humane Society International“, an organisation that improves the welfare of animals in more than 50 countries, works worldwide to improve the human-animal bond, rescue and protect dogs and cats, improve the welfare of farm animals, protect wildlife, promote animal-free testing and research, intervene, and work against disasters and all kinds of cruelty to animals. A certificate of appreciation was presented to our Foundation by the organisation regarding the donation.

We Cannot Take Away The Right To Life Of Our Dear Friends

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “Every year, millions of animals are used for medical and academic reasons for sectors such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Experiments disrupt the body integrity of animals and often cause their death. Animals and humans have different biological structures. Therefore, a test performed on a rabbit, mouse or monkey cannot be 100 per cent adapted to the human body. It is necessary to support efforts to protect all animals worldwide, including those exposed to the cat and dog meat trade, those suffering in laboratories and factory farms, and those abused in the wild. As the Foundation, we took it as our duty to donate once again to Humane Society International, an organisation that fights against animal abuse and works to promote a cruelty-free lifestyle for all animals.”

Humane Society International

As one of the world’s leading animal protection charities, Humane Society International (HSI) has been improving animal welfare in more than 50 countries and driving positive change for over 30 years.

HSI is certified by the Better Business Bureau for all 20 standards of charitable responsibility. Through its work in rescue efforts, disaster response, veterinary clinics and empowering local organisations, it has played a critical and expanding role in combating animal suffering around the world. It is working hard to introduce national bans on animal testing of cosmetics in countries around the world. It also effectively and humanely combats the dog meat trade and pet overpopulation in underdeveloped countries. Eighty-five per cent of its funds are spent on animal protection programmes, from ending the cruel dog meat trade to combating horrific forms of wildlife abuse.
