Late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı made a donation to the Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation for the Mother’s Day of the mothers of the martyred non-commissioned officers and privates.

Regarding the donation, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı by the Foundation’s General Manager, Mr. Engin Durak.

We have not forgotten the mothers of our Mehmetçik soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the homeland and the nation.

Our martyrs are the brave sons of the holy mothers of the saintly Turkish nation, who sacrificed their lives to protect the unity and solidarity of our homeland and the security of our nation. For my mother and I, it is a debt of loyalty to support the tearful, devoted mothers of our Martyrs on Mother’s Day,” Uğur Tatlıcı said, regarding the donation.

Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation

The Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation was established on May 17, 1982, in order to provide social and economic support to the relatives of those who were martyred or lost their lives for any reason, as well as Mehmetçik Soldiers who are veterans and with disabilities and sacrificed their lives for the safety of our country and nation.

The Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation provides death and disability benefits to those who lost their lives or became disabled during their service at the Gendarmerie General Command and the Coast Guard Command, their spouses and children, and their dependents (except for Specialized Privates, specialist gendarmes, and contracted non-commissioned officers and privates), offers continuous care assistance to veterans and Mehmetçik soldiers with disabilities, provides care and education support to the children of the Mehmetçik soldiers, implements social support programs for Mehmetçik soldiers and their families and donors included in the aid plan, continuously improves itself with donations, investment and promotion programs that support the aid plan, and informs the public regularly. By this means, the Foundation contributes to strengthening social justice, social peace, and national unity at the country level by carrying out activities.

The donations and aid projects mentioned here were made with the personal income of the founders of our Foundation, Nurten Tatlıcı and her son Uğur Tatlıcı, in memory of the late Salih Tatlıcı, the benevolent person whose name continues to live on through our Foundation and whom they bid farewell in journey to eternity in 2009.

Support to the Ukrainian People from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

Late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı made a donation to the “Donation for Ukraine” campaign organized by the Polish Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS) for the people of Ukraine, who were adversely affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Innocent children are the biggest victims of wars

Helpfulness is a wonderful feeling inherent in our nation. Solidarity leads to an increase in the feeling of friendship and brotherhood between people and societies. We see it as a humanitarian duty to help people who are in difficult situations, especially in our region. In addition to the supports we have given with my mother to the people of Ukraine who were victims of the war, this time we supported the aid campaign organized by the Polish Government for the people of Ukraine. On this occasion, we reiterate our hope that diplomatic efforts are concluded as soon as possible in a positive way, that the war will end and that peace will be ensured permanently all over the world.” Uğur Tatlıcı said regarding the donation.

Polish Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS)

Donations to the RARS are used to help those affected by the war in Ukraine. As the humanitarian crisis escalates dramatically, Poland is expanding its life-saving aids through RARS, which sends transport for purposes of aid across the border (more than 100 heavy-duty vehicles per day). Poland also expects up to 5 million refugees to whom the RARS will also provide comprehensive assistance.

Support from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı to UNICEF

Nurten Tatlıcı, the wife of deceased businessman Salih Tatlıcı, and their son Uğur Tatlıcı donated to the “For Every Child in Danger” aid campaign organized by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), an international aid organization, especially for children affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The biggest victims of wars are innocent children.

“Children are the biggest victims of wars. In wars, innocent children encounter tears, fear, violence, and pain that negatively affect their lives. Witnessing all these painful events through the media makes us ache deeply, like all people of conscience. No incident can be a reason to darken the lives of children. A world without war, where love and peace prevail, is the right of everyone, but most of all, children. Together with my mother, we supported the Turkish Red Crescent and the “International Committee of the Red Cross” for the people of Ukraine who were victims of the war. This time, we supported the aid campaign organized by UNICEF for children in Ukraine. On this occasion, we reiterate our wish that the diplomatic efforts will be concluded in a positive way as soon as possible, that the war will end, and that peace will be ensured permanently.” Uğur Tatlıcı said regarding the donation.

It has a strong presence in 190 countries, with 156 Country Offices and 34 National Committees. The priority areas where UNICEF continues its work are Education, Child Protection, Social Protection, Youth Participation, and Basic Needs. In addition, when necessary, interventions are made in the fields of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Health and Nutrition. Support from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı to the “International Committee of the Red Cross”

Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı made donations to the “Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine” campaign organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, an international aid organization, to meet the health, shelter, protection, food, and hygiene needs of the civilians in Ukraine, which was adversely affected by the war.

We support victims of war in Ukraine

Regarding the donation, My late father Salih Tatlıcı used to say that there is no problem that cannot be solved through dialogue and persuasion. Unfortunately, the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia turned into a war. Once again, humanity is being tested by the destruction, pain, and loss of the war. Civil settlements have turned into battlefields in this crisis, which the international community has been watching helplessly before the pain of similar ones has not subsided yet. Civilians, children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities are trying to hold on to life in cold and troubled conditions in shelters and underground metro stations in fear and panic. According to what we learned from the media, people in big cities are experiencing great difficulties in emergency health, shelter, protection, food, and hygiene services and materials. We lend supportto the aid campaign organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross to help it continue providing much-needed medical and humanitarian aid in Ukraine. On this occasion, we wish that diplomatic efforts to restore peace will be concluded as soon as possible, that the war will end, and peace will come,Uğur Tatlıcı said.

Impartial and Independent Humanitarian Organization: International Committee of the Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross is one of the oldest and best-known organizations globally. It is one of the independent and impartial humanitarian organizations with its aid and protection activities, which have an important place in the field of international humanitarian law, with members from 195 countries, including Turkey.

Its mission is to protect human life and dignity, help victims of war and civil conflict worldwide, and improve the lives of powerless and people in need worldwide by mobilizing the power of humanism.

Support to the Campaign “For Ukraine Now!” by Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

Late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı donated to the “For Ukraine Now!” aid campaignorganized by our Red Crescent to meet the health, shelter, protection, food, and hygiene needs of civilians in Ukraine, whowere adversely affected by the war. Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı were presented with certificates of appreciation by Dr. Kerem Kınık, the president of the Red Crescent.

Supporting the victims of war in Ukraine is a human duty

“My late father Salih Tatlıcı used to say that war is a great disaster for humanity and problems can never be solved by war; on the contrary, they will grow and deepen. Unfortunately, the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia turned into a war. The most affected victims of war are undoubtedly children. Wars tarnish children’s future, deprive them of their education and nutrition, break up their families, and, worst of all, take their lives. War takes away people’s joy in life and turns the economic order upside down. My mother and I wish this war to come to an end as soon as possible, the problem to be resolved through diplomatic methods and peace to come. We wholeheartedly support the “For Ukraine Now!” campaign organized by our Red Crescent to heal the wounds of Ukrainian war victims,” Uğur Tatlıcı stated regarding the donation.

Turkish Red Crescent Society: The symbol of humanity, impartiality, and peace.

It was founded on June 11, 1868, under the name of “Ottoman Aid Society for the Wounded and Sick Soldiers,” out of the desire to help soldiers injured or sick on the battlefield without any discrimination. The sign of Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) is the bright red “crescent” to the left when looking straight ahead on a white background. In the Red Crescent flag, the open side of the “crescent” is towards the opposite of the flagpole. Between the Ottoman-Russian War of 1876 and the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, in all the wars in which Turkey is a party and through the mobile and fixed hospitals it established behind the front, the patient transport services, the hospital ships it equipped, the nurses it trained and the volunteer patient caregivers, the Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) assisted in the care and treatment of tens of thousands of friend and enemy of Little Mehmet who were injured or sick on the battlefield, provided humanitarian aid to the prisoners of war, whether Turkish or enemy, and endeavored to care and protect the civilian population affected by the war.

The aim of Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) is to prevent or alleviate human suffering, wherever it is witnessed, without any discrimination, to protect human life and health, to ensure that human personality is respected, and to strive to bring mutual understanding, friendship, respect, cooperation and lasting peace among people. Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) symbolizes solidarity in times of need, equality in times of suffering, humanitarianism, neutrality, and peace in the fiercest moment of the war. Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) shares the basic principles of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. These are the principles of humanity, non-discrimination, impartiality, independence, charitable nature, unity, and universality. Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) is a voluntary social service organization with a legal personality, subject to the provisions of private law, non-profit, free of charge, and working for the benefit of the public.

The Tragedy in Ukraine Breaks Our Hearts…

Dear Friends,

Unfortunately, innocent children suffer and pay the price— mostly unaware of what is happening in wars. Children playing games in their homes and studying at their schools are taken to the nearest shelters in an environment of great panic they encounter for the first time without realizing what is happening.

The looks in the images we see in different media outlets clearly describe fear, deprivation, and sadness. They leave behind bombed-out schools and nurseries. Children are now struggling to survive in cold winter conditions instead of playing in the streets and gardens. There are also children separated from their families. Babies born in a shelter are hope for everyone.

The children of Ukraine are now praying for peace…

Unfortunately, we cannot do anything but sincerely wish that the war will be over as soon as possible and the problem will be resolved by diplomatic methods, and the peace will come.

We respectfully announce to the public that we will continue our support for aid campaigns for Ukrainian children and other Ukrainians in need and most affected by the war and invite all our heartfelt philanthropist friends to support the Ukrainians in need.

Support for the Protection of Our Seas from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı, Loyal Friends of Nature

The late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı continue to
support the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa, which carries out important works to protect
our seas, beaches, and waterways and keep them clean. Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı were
presented with certificates by the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa for their support.

We must always be in solidarity to keep our seas alive

Regarding the donation, “As you know, we published a memorial notice in a national
newspaper on every anniversary of February 22, 2009, when the late Salih Tatlıcı passed
away. We announced that starting from 2020, we have started to donate to nongovernmental organizations instead of publishing commemorations in the newspaper. As a
matter of fact, we continued and continue to support non-governmental organizations
operating in various fields. This year, on the 13th anniversary of his passing from us, on
February 22, we commemorated my late father Salih Tatlıcı with longing at his grave. In
addition, this year, we have provided new support to the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa,
which we supported before on various occasions in previous years. My late father Salih
Tatlıcı used to say, “the sea gives me calmness and peace.” As you know, Turmepa is a nongovernmental organization that has been working on keeping our seas clean for many
years. We also wanted to give them support for their activities to clean seawater.” said Uğur
Tatlıcı.

TURMEPA Clean Sea Association—An association that plays a vital role in protecting
Turkey’s seas and waterways

TURMEPA is a civil society movement that was initiated on April 8, 1994, under the
founding chairmanship of Rahmi M. Koç, together with the Chamber of Shipping and a
handful of sea lovers, to make the protection of our country’s coasts and seas a national
priority and to leave a livable Turkey embraced by clean seas for future generations. With the
projects it has implemented, TURMEPA, which is well known by the public both nationally
and internationally, has become Turkey’s leading marine-oriented non-governmental
organization in 25 years.

TURMEPA, which received the support of organizations such as
IMO, UNEP, The Club of Rome, ICS, and IUCN on international platforms, with the
“Declaration for the Protection of the Seas” published in 1995, obtained the status of an
association working for the public benefit with the decision taken by the Council of Ministers
on June 19, 2000.
TURMEPA, which plays a vital role in protecting Turkey’s seas and waterways, is our
country’s leading non-governmental organization operating in this field. Our country is one of
the richest countries in the world in terms of natural beauties, historical and cultural resources,
biological diversity of its sea and coasts, and both underwater and surface living and nonliving assets. The TURMEPA Clean Sea Association has been working to leave a livable
Turkey that has achieved its goal of sustainability in development for future generations by
making the protection of our seas and coasts a national priority since the day it was founded.

Regarding our Remembrance Messages

To our distinguished friends:

As you know, we published commemorative messages in a national newspaper every anniversary of February 22, 2009, when the late Salih Tatlıcı passed away.

Starting from 2020, we decided to establish the practice of making cash donations to non-governmental organizations that exhibit the highest examples of social solidarity. These non-governmental organizations demonstrate the highest examples of social solidarity all over the world, especially in our country, operating in fields that have an important place in social life and need constant material and moral support, such as education, environment, health, protection of wildlife and seas, and fight against hunger.

Based on this decision, we respectfully submit to all our friends and the public that this year, which marks the 13th anniversary of the late Salih Tatlıcı’s passing, we continue to make donations to non-governmental organizations operating in various fields, as we mentioned above, instead of publishing a commemorative message in a newspaper, and we will continue to do so at every opportunity.

Sapling Donation from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı to TEMA Foundation

The deceased businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı have
donated 700 saplings to the “Ağrı Sabuncu Memorial Forest,” a project of TEMA, Turkish
Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural
Habitats, to support our forest areas that are the guarantee of our future. TEMA Foundation
certified 700 saplings planted with the donations of Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı.

We will continue to donate saplings to increase our forest areas.

Regarding the donation, “My late father also loved nature very much. He used to say,
‘nature is the most precious gift given to us.’ To live in a clean world, to protect and develop
our existing forests very well to prevent erosion, we should also plant more trees and
encourage the planting of trees at every opportunity to produce new forest areas. Protecting
nature and leaving a healthy environment consisting of clean air, water, and soil to future
generations should be our main goals. For this reason, together with my mother, Nurten
Tatlıcı, we continue to support the growth of our forests. In cooperation with the TEMA
Foundation, which has been carrying out significant works for many years to protect
natural assets and develop afforestation areas, in addition to combating erosion and
desertification in our country, we planted 2000 saplings in the forest area that will bear the
name of my father, the late Salih Tatlıcı, in 2009 and donated these saplings on behalf of
our loved ones. This year, we aimed to plant 700 saplings in the “Ağrı Sabuncu Memorial
Forest,” a project of the TEMA Foundation, in memory of my late father, Salih Tatlıcı, and
present them to Mother Nature on behalf of our loved and respected close ones. We will
always continue to do our part to protect nature and the environment.” Uğur Tatlıcı said.

TEMA Foundation, Our Pioneer Organization in Combating Erosion and
Desertification

The Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of
Natural Habitats, known by the public by its acronym, TEMA, was founded in 1992 by
businessmen named Hayrettin Karaca and A. Nihat Koçyiğit, with the slogan “Don’t Let
Turkey Become a Desert.” Karaca and Koçyiğit, known as Toprak Dede [Grandpa Soil]
and Yaprak Dede [Grandpa Leaf], respectively, by nature lovers and the wider public, due
to their pioneering initiatives in this field, took crucial steps to prevent the desertification of
our country as the founder and honorary presidents of the foundation.

Besides carrying out afforestation studies to create new forest areas in all cities of our country,
TEMA Foundation —which continues its activities as a voluntary, conscious, pioneering,
international, and respected Non-Governmental Organization that works based on science for
the protection of all-natural assets, especially our lands, with the principle of sustainable life,
believes in social peace coming from the soil, integrates with the people, has a say in the
future of the country and the world— draws attention as a pioneering organization that
organizes educational activities to raise environmental awareness, carries out social
responsibility projects for rural development and the creation of new environmental policies,
and develops collaborations with the world’s leading environmental protection organizations,
especially the United Nations, and has won international awards for all these activities.
