Support for the Protection of Our Seas from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı, Loyal Friends of Nature

The late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı continue to
support the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa, which carries out important works to protect
our seas, beaches, and waterways and keep them clean. Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı were
presented with certificates by the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa for their support.

We must always be in solidarity to keep our seas alive

Regarding the donation, “As you know, we published a memorial notice in a national
newspaper on every anniversary of February 22, 2009, when the late Salih Tatlıcı passed
away. We announced that starting from 2020, we have started to donate to nongovernmental organizations instead of publishing commemorations in the newspaper. As a
matter of fact, we continued and continue to support non-governmental organizations
operating in various fields. This year, on the 13th anniversary of his passing from us, on
February 22, we commemorated my late father Salih Tatlıcı with longing at his grave. In
addition, this year, we have provided new support to the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa,
which we supported before on various occasions in previous years. My late father Salih
Tatlıcı used to say, “the sea gives me calmness and peace.” As you know, Turmepa is a nongovernmental organization that has been working on keeping our seas clean for many
years. We also wanted to give them support for their activities to clean seawater.” said Uğur
Tatlıcı.

TURMEPA Clean Sea Association—An association that plays a vital role in protecting
Turkey’s seas and waterways

TURMEPA is a civil society movement that was initiated on April 8, 1994, under the
founding chairmanship of Rahmi M. Koç, together with the Chamber of Shipping and a
handful of sea lovers, to make the protection of our country’s coasts and seas a national
priority and to leave a livable Turkey embraced by clean seas for future generations. With the
projects it has implemented, TURMEPA, which is well known by the public both nationally
and internationally, has become Turkey’s leading marine-oriented non-governmental
organization in 25 years.

TURMEPA, which received the support of organizations such as
IMO, UNEP, The Club of Rome, ICS, and IUCN on international platforms, with the
“Declaration for the Protection of the Seas” published in 1995, obtained the status of an
association working for the public benefit with the decision taken by the Council of Ministers
on June 19, 2000.
TURMEPA, which plays a vital role in protecting Turkey’s seas and waterways, is our
country’s leading non-governmental organization operating in this field. Our country is one of
the richest countries in the world in terms of natural beauties, historical and cultural resources,
biological diversity of its sea and coasts, and both underwater and surface living and nonliving assets. The TURMEPA Clean Sea Association has been working to leave a livable
Turkey that has achieved its goal of sustainability in development for future generations by
making the protection of our seas and coasts a national priority since the day it was founded.

The donations and aid projects mentioned here were made with the personal income of the founders of our Foundation, Nurten Tatlıcı and her son Uğur Tatlıcı, in memory of the late Salih Tatlıcı, the benevolent person whose name continues to live on through our Foundation and whom they bid farewell in journey to eternity in 2009.

Support from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı to protect our seas

The late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı continue to develop their cooperation with the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa, a non-governmental organization known for the projects they carry out to protect and keep our seas, beaches, and waterways clean. For the joint project developed for this purpose, the labels and stickers used on different products were delivered to Turmepa for distribution.

Our seas are the most precious treasure we will pass on to future generations.

Regarding the donation, “My late father Salih Tatlıcı used to talk about how the sound of water always gives peace and mention that we should protect our seas. In our country, surrounded by the sea on three sides, the smell of the sea and the sound of the waves have always made me happy. Our seas are the most precious treasure given to us. It should be our indispensable duty to protect this treasure and pass it on to future generations. My mother and I believe that we should take active steps to protect our seas, and we consider it a humanitarian duty to support the Clean Sea Association/Turmepa wholeheartedly.” Uğur Tatlıcı said.

Support for the Protection of Our Seas from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı sponsored the activities of cleaning the Aegean Sea from the liquid waste within the framework of the cooperation project developed with the motto of “Live Blue, Love Blue, Think Blue” with the TURMEPA Clean Sea Association, which carries out important works to keep our seas clean.

Uğur Tatlıcı, who is known for his consciousness of nature and environmental protection and his support to activities in this direction, sponsored the project started with the slogan “Live Blue, Love Blue, Think Blue”by the TURMEPA Clean Sea Association, which has been known for its activities for keeping our seas clean for many years, in order to prevent the pollution in our Aegean Sea caused by the liquid wastes especially discharged by boats.

Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı sponsored TURMEPA’sClean Sea 3 and Clean Sea 4 liquid waste collection boats

Uğur Tatlıcı made the following statements regarding the sponsored project: “We continue to support activities aimed at protecting nature and the environment. We wanted to add a new chapter to these with this cooperation we developed with TURMEPA Clean Sea Association. The association is a civilian initiative that has been working on keeping our seas clean for many years and is sponsored by our country’s leading big companies. We, too, wanted to support them in preventing the pollution created by disposing of the liquid wastes of many domestic and foreign boats visiting the natural wonders of the Aegean Sea, especially in the summer months.”

“Boats visiting our seas and coasts do not follow the rules”

“We sponsored CleanSea 3 and CleanSea 4 liquid waste collection boats in Marmaris Hisarönü and Marmaris Bay, respectively. These boats will take on an important task in keeping our seas clean by collecting the liquid wastes of the boats visiting the areasin the region where these liquid waste collection boats work.Unfortunately, not following the requisite rules, the vast majority of boats visiting our seas and coasts discharge their liquid waste to the coastal areas of our seas, although they have to discharge at the liquid waste collection stations in the marinas or 6 nautical miles outside.”

Uğur Tatlıcı: “The Clean Sea 3 and Clean Sea 4 boats that we sponsor will collect 1,200,000 liters of wastewater.”

“In order to prevent this, the liquid waste collection boats named Clean Sea 3 and Clean Sea 4, which we sponsor, will prevent 1 million 200 thousand liters of sewage and bilge waste from leaking into our seas in the 2013 summer season. We are planning to continue our cooperation with TURMEPA Clean Sea Association to keep our seas clean with the support we will give further.”
