Donation from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı to Darüşşafaka Society

On the occasion of “Father’s Day,” deceased businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı made donations to Darüşşafaka Society to support the education of our talented and successful children and young people, , from middle school to college, whose mothers and/or fathers died and who have insufficient financial means.

On account of the donation, the Darüşşafaka Society presented certificates to Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı.

Support to Education is Our First Priority

Our parents are the most valuable assets we can have in this world. In our traditions, our fathers are described as the pillars of our homes. It is challenging for the family to survive without a father. The presence of the father gives children confidence, and they feel stronger. I, too, commemorate my late father, Salih Tatlıcı, whose absence I have always felt for 13 years, with great longing and compassion. We are thrilled to have contributed to our Darüşşafaka, which sets an example for institutions, the first well-established non-governmental organization in the field of education in our country, with its 158-year history, which raises children who have lost their parents at a young age, who cannot receive a good education due to lack of financial means, and brings them to life, providing equal opportunities, undertaking such a sacred duty, and adopting the principle of preserving the traditions, on the occasion of ‘Father’s Day’ Uğur Tatlıcı saidregarding the donation.

Darüşşafaka Society

“Cemiyet-iTedrisiyye-iİslamiye” was established on 30 March 1863, upon an imperial order of the Sultan Abdülaziz, by Yusuf Ziya Pasha, Gazi Ahmed Muhtar Pasha, Vidinli Tevfik Pasha, Sakızlı Ahmet Pasha, and Ali Naki Effendi.  The purpose was to support the education of needy and orphaned children. The society, whose members comprised many Ottoman pashas and intellectuals, constituted Turkey’s very first non-governmental organization in the field of education. Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions has been raising talented young people who do not have good education opportunities as leaders who have adopted universal values, are self-confident, and aware of their duties and responsibilities towards their country and society, with donations from philanthropists since 1863. Darüşşafaka Society also provides non-refundable scholarship support to graduates of Darüşşafaka High School who continue to university. That said, since 2014, there has been a higher education scholarship program for university students who are not Darüşşafaka graduates.

The donations and aid projects mentioned here were made with the personal income of the founders of our Foundation, Nurten Tatlıcı and her son Uğur Tatlıcı, in memory of the late Salih Tatlıcı, the benevolent person whose name continues to live on through our Foundation and whom they bid farewell in journey to eternity in 2009.

Support for Children in Ukraine from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

The late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı donated to the aid campaign organized by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), an international charity that works 24/7 to protect children affected by war in Ukraine and neighboring countries, to meet their urgent needs, and to provide them with psychosocial support and access to education.

The biggest victims of wars are innocent children

“War leaves great and destructive traces in human life. It causes many losses of life and property. It creates psychological, economic, and social damage. The biggest victims of wars are innocent children. A world without war, where love and peace prevail, is the right of everyone, but most of all, children. Together with my mother, we always support various international aid organizations for the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian children who are victims of the war. This time, we wanted to support the aid campaign organized by UNICEF for children in Ukraine. On this occasion, it is our greatest wish that diplomatic efforts will be concluded as soon as possible, that the war will end and peace will prevail in the world,”Uğur Tatlıcı saidregarding the donation.

Support to “People in Need” Organization from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

The late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı donated to the “SOS Ukraine” (Emergency Assistance for Ukraine) campaign organized by the “People in Need” organization, an international charity headquartered in the Czech Republic, for the people of Ukraine, who were adversely affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

I sincerely wish peace to prevail in our world.

“Wars leave only wreckages, pain, tears, and deep wounds. What is most painful is the death of innocent babies, children, women, and older people by bombs. I wish wars would end in our world and peace would prevail in democracy, freedom, and solidarity. In addition to the aids my mother and I have provided for the Ukrainian people, who have been victims of the war that has been going on for months, we supported the aid campaign organized by the “People in Need” organization this time, an international aid organization headquartered in the Czech Republic, for the people of Ukraine. On this occasion, we reiterate our wish that diplomatic efforts will be concluded as soon as possible and that the war in our northern neighbor will come to an end, and that peace will be ensured permanently.” Uğur Tatlıcı stated regarding the donation.

The “People in Need” Organization

The People in Need organization was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents who were no longer satisfied with merely relaying information about ongoing conflicts and began sending out aid. It continues its activities as a professional humanitarian organization striving to provide assistance in troubled regions and promote adherence to human rights worldwide.

The People in Need is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanism, freedom, equality, and solidarity. It considers human dignity and freedom to be fundamental values. The Organization believes that people anywhere in the world should have the right to make decisions about their lives and share the rights expressed in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” Immediately after the start of the current Ukraine-Russia conflict, the Organization has begun to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine and support refugees arriving in the Czech Republic and other countries. The Organization operates in the West and East of Ukraine, where humanitarian aid vehicles and trains go and work with teams of more than 100 people, helps people from Ukraine in cooperation with local organizations in neighboring countries, and provides social assistance to refugees in most regions of the Czech Republic. The “People in Need” organization has collected donations of one and a half billion Czech crowns in the first few weeks after the start of the Russian occupation.

Scholarship Support from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı

Nurten Tatlıcı, the wife of late businessman Salih Tatlıcı, and their son Uğur Tatlıcı have provided scholarships to thousands of children and young people studying and in need since 2009. They are always pleased with the support they give to education.

From now on, the “Salih Tatlıcı Foundation,” which was established by Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı this year, will provide scholarships to successful undergraduate students at a public or private university with insufficient financial means, within the quota, amount, and duration to be determined every year. You can find scholarship application conditions, duration, and other information on the “APPLICATION” tab of our website. You can also apply for a scholarship through the “APPLICATION” tab on our website.

Regarding the scholarship, “One of the most difficult periods of human life is to struggle with financial impossibilities in student life and to try to stand on one’s feet. Although my late father wanted to study very much, he had to leave his education unfinished due to familial difficulties and started to work in his father’s shop at a young age and became a very successful businessman in time. My father placed great emphasis on education. During his lifetime, he made significant donations in the field of education. He would say that giving a scholarship is a very meaningful contribution we will make to the future, and he would like us to continue this. Together with my mother, we are trying to fulfill my dear father’s oral will, and we are delighted about it. stated Uğur Tatlıcı.

Support to the Ukrainian People from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

Late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı made a donation to the “Donation for Ukraine” campaign organized by the Polish Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS) for the people of Ukraine, who were adversely affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Innocent children are the biggest victims of wars

Helpfulness is a wonderful feeling inherent in our nation. Solidarity leads to an increase in the feeling of friendship and brotherhood between people and societies. We see it as a humanitarian duty to help people who are in difficult situations, especially in our region. In addition to the supports we have given with my mother to the people of Ukraine who were victims of the war, this time we supported the aid campaign organized by the Polish Government for the people of Ukraine. On this occasion, we reiterate our hope that diplomatic efforts are concluded as soon as possible in a positive way, that the war will end and that peace will be ensured permanently all over the world.” Uğur Tatlıcı said regarding the donation.

Polish Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS)

Donations to the RARS are used to help those affected by the war in Ukraine. As the humanitarian crisis escalates dramatically, Poland is expanding its life-saving aids through RARS, which sends transport for purposes of aid across the border (more than 100 heavy-duty vehicles per day). Poland also expects up to 5 million refugees to whom the RARS will also provide comprehensive assistance.

Support from Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı to UNICEF

Nurten Tatlıcı, the wife of deceased businessman Salih Tatlıcı, and their son Uğur Tatlıcı donated to the “For Every Child in Danger” aid campaign organized by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), an international aid organization, especially for children affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The biggest victims of wars are innocent children.

“Children are the biggest victims of wars. In wars, innocent children encounter tears, fear, violence, and pain that negatively affect their lives. Witnessing all these painful events through the media makes us ache deeply, like all people of conscience. No incident can be a reason to darken the lives of children. A world without war, where love and peace prevail, is the right of everyone, but most of all, children. Together with my mother, we supported the Turkish Red Crescent and the “International Committee of the Red Cross” for the people of Ukraine who were victims of the war. This time, we supported the aid campaign organized by UNICEF for children in Ukraine. On this occasion, we reiterate our wish that the diplomatic efforts will be concluded in a positive way as soon as possible, that the war will end, and that peace will be ensured permanently.” Uğur Tatlıcı said regarding the donation.

Support from Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı to the “International Committee of the Red Cross”

Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı made donations to the “Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine” campaign organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, an international aid organization, to meet the health, shelter, protection, food, and hygiene needs of the civilians in Ukraine, which was adversely affected by the war.

We support victims of war in Ukraine

Regarding the donation, My late father Salih Tatlıcı used to say that there is no problem that cannot be solved through dialogue and persuasion. Unfortunately, the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia turned into a war. Once again, humanity is being tested by the destruction, pain, and loss of the war. Civil settlements have turned into battlefields in this crisis, which the international community has been watching helplessly before the pain of similar ones has not subsided yet. Civilians, children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities are trying to hold on to life in cold and troubled conditions in shelters and underground metro stations in fear and panic. According to what we learned from the media, people in big cities are experiencing great difficulties in emergency health, shelter, protection, food, and hygiene services and materials. We lend supportto the aid campaign organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross to help it continue providing much-needed medical and humanitarian aid in Ukraine. On this occasion, we wish that diplomatic efforts to restore peace will be concluded as soon as possible, that the war will end, and peace will come,Uğur Tatlıcı said.

Impartial and Independent Humanitarian Organization: International Committee of the Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross is one of the oldest and best-known organizations globally. It is one of the independent and impartial humanitarian organizations with its aid and protection activities, which have an important place in the field of international humanitarian law, with members from 195 countries, including Turkey.

Its mission is to protect human life and dignity, help victims of war and civil conflict worldwide, and improve the lives of powerless and people in need worldwide by mobilizing the power of humanism.

Support to the Campaign “For Ukraine Now!” by Uğur and Nurten Tatlıcı

Late businessman Salih Tatlıcı’s wife Nurten Tatlıcı and their son Uğur Tatlıcı donated to the “For Ukraine Now!” aid campaignorganized by our Red Crescent to meet the health, shelter, protection, food, and hygiene needs of civilians in Ukraine, whowere adversely affected by the war. Nurten and Uğur Tatlıcı were presented with certificates of appreciation by Dr. Kerem Kınık, the president of the Red Crescent.

Supporting the victims of war in Ukraine is a human duty

“My late father Salih Tatlıcı used to say that war is a great disaster for humanity and problems can never be solved by war; on the contrary, they will grow and deepen. Unfortunately, the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia turned into a war. The most affected victims of war are undoubtedly children. Wars tarnish children’s future, deprive them of their education and nutrition, break up their families, and, worst of all, take their lives. War takes away people’s joy in life and turns the economic order upside down. My mother and I wish this war to come to an end as soon as possible, the problem to be resolved through diplomatic methods and peace to come. We wholeheartedly support the “For Ukraine Now!” campaign organized by our Red Crescent to heal the wounds of Ukrainian war victims,” Uğur Tatlıcı stated regarding the donation.

Turkish Red Crescent Society: The symbol of humanity, impartiality, and peace.

It was founded on June 11, 1868, under the name of “Ottoman Aid Society for the Wounded and Sick Soldiers,” out of the desire to help soldiers injured or sick on the battlefield without any discrimination. The sign of Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) is the bright red “crescent” to the left when looking straight ahead on a white background. In the Red Crescent flag, the open side of the “crescent” is towards the opposite of the flagpole. Between the Ottoman-Russian War of 1876 and the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, in all the wars in which Turkey is a party and through the mobile and fixed hospitals it established behind the front, the patient transport services, the hospital ships it equipped, the nurses it trained and the volunteer patient caregivers, the Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) assisted in the care and treatment of tens of thousands of friend and enemy of Little Mehmet who were injured or sick on the battlefield, provided humanitarian aid to the prisoners of war, whether Turkish or enemy, and endeavored to care and protect the civilian population affected by the war.

The aim of Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) is to prevent or alleviate human suffering, wherever it is witnessed, without any discrimination, to protect human life and health, to ensure that human personality is respected, and to strive to bring mutual understanding, friendship, respect, cooperation and lasting peace among people. Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) symbolizes solidarity in times of need, equality in times of suffering, humanitarianism, neutrality, and peace in the fiercest moment of the war. Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) shares the basic principles of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. These are the principles of humanity, non-discrimination, impartiality, independence, charitable nature, unity, and universality. Kızılay (The Turkish Red Crescent) is a voluntary social service organization with a legal personality, subject to the provisions of private law, non-profit, free of charge, and working for the benefit of the public.

The Tragedy in Ukraine Breaks Our Hearts…

Dear Friends,

Unfortunately, innocent children suffer and pay the price— mostly unaware of what is happening in wars. Children playing games in their homes and studying at their schools are taken to the nearest shelters in an environment of great panic they encounter for the first time without realizing what is happening.

The looks in the images we see in different media outlets clearly describe fear, deprivation, and sadness. They leave behind bombed-out schools and nurseries. Children are now struggling to survive in cold winter conditions instead of playing in the streets and gardens. There are also children separated from their families. Babies born in a shelter are hope for everyone.

The children of Ukraine are now praying for peace…

Unfortunately, we cannot do anything but sincerely wish that the war will be over as soon as possible and the problem will be resolved by diplomatic methods, and the peace will come.

We respectfully announce to the public that we will continue our support for aid campaigns for Ukrainian children and other Ukrainians in need and most affected by the war and invite all our heartfelt philanthropist friends to support the Ukrainians in need.
