We Commemorate The Late Salih Tatlıcı On The 14th Anniversary Of His Death By Supporting Education

As it is known, the Salih Tatlici Foundation was established by Nurten Tatlıcı, the wife of the late businessman Salih Tatlıcı, and Uğur Tatlıcı, their son, to keep the name “Salih Tatlıcı” alive.

As the Foundation, on this day, the 14th anniversary of Salih Tatlıcı’s death, we commemorate our late elder with respect and longing.

On this opportunity, we, as the Foundation, have donated to the Darüşşafaka Society, which has launched a new donation campaign in order to provide more opportunities to our earthquake-affected children who lost their mother and/or father in the earthquake in 11 provinces, to provide 8 years of uninterrupted quality education, to provide the quality education they deserve and to reach more students from the earthquake region.

A certificate was presented to our Foundation by the Darüşşafaka Society for the donation.

“Supporting education at every opportunity was also a priority for my late father”

Regarding the donation, Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said: “My late father attached great importance to education. We, as the Foundation, in memory of my dear father on the 14th anniversary of his death; have contributed to the Darüşşafaka, which has always been a home of compassion for talented children who have lost their parents and/or fathers and have insufficient financial means, which has always taken care of our children brought from regions damaged by natural disasters such as earthquakes, and prepared them for their bright futures by providing them with qualified education, and which has now launched an earthquake relief campaign to increase its quota in order to provide 8 years of uninterrupted qualified education to children who have lost their parents and/or fathers in the earthquakes in 11 provinces, which sets an important example of sustainable institutions in our country with its 160-year history. “

For 160 years, our traditional institution providing equal opportunity in education, the Darüşşafaka Society

“Cemiyet-i Tedrisiye-i İslamiye” was founded by Yusuf Ziya Pasha, Gazi Ahmed Muhtar Pasha, Vidinli Hüseyin Tevfik Pasha, Sakızlı Ahmet Esat Pasha and Ali Naki Efendi with the edict of Sultan Abdülaziz Khan dated 30 March 1863. Its aim was to support the education and training of poor and orphaned children. The Society, of which many Ottoman pashas and intellectuals were members, constituted the first example of a civil organization in the field of education in the history of Turkey. Since 1863, the Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions, with the donations of philanthropists, has been raising talented young people who do not have the opportunity for a good education as leader individuals who adopt universal values, are self-confident, and are aware of their duties and responsibilities towards their country and society. The Darüşşafaka Society also provides complimentary scholarship support to graduates of the Darüşşafaka High School who continue their education at the university. On the other hand, since 2014, there is also a higher education scholarship program for university students who are not the Darüşşafaka graduates.

The donations and aid projects mentioned here were made by the founders of our Foundation, Nurten Tatlıcı and her son Uğur Tatlıcı, in memory of the late Salih Tatlıcı, the benevolent person whose name continues to live on through our Foundation and whom they bid farewell in journey to eternity in 2009.

Our Foundation Made Its 3rd Donation To AFAD

The Salih Tatlıcı Foundation made a donation to AFAD’s “Evim Yuvan Olsun” (Let My Home Be Your Nest) campaign in order to make a small contribution to solving the shelter problem of our citizens affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes.

While the production of the containers we have ordered to be sent to the earthquake region continues, we continue to support AFAD by donating to the “Evim Yuvan Olsun (Let My Home Be Your Nest)” campaign initiated by AFAD.

We feel great sorrow due to the increasing loss of life every day, we wish mercy to our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake, condolences and patience to their relatives, and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

We Do Not Forget Other Living Creatures In The Earthquake Zone

The Salih Tatlıcı Foundation has donated to the “Animal Rights Federation” (HAYTAP). HAYTAP defends that living creatures that cannot express themselves through speech should be ethical and legal subjects just like human beings, and by considering it as a long-term goal to be able to file lawsuits on their behalf and to intervene in legal proceedings, the Federation is engaged in activities related to animal rights.

We should all strive to prevent the extinction of natural life

Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said about the donation; It is not a right but a necessity that animals and other living creatures enjoy all the moral and legal rights that humans enjoy. The occupation of other living creatures’ habitats by humans and their cruel behavior towards all species with which they share the planet should be strongly opposed. Especially in cities, it is necessary to help the stray animals we live with to roam freely by keeping their numbers under control through vaccination and sterilization, where necessary. The earthquake disaster we have experienced has also affected animals negatively. As the Salih Tatlıcı Foundation, we continue to help our earthquake victims. This time we have supported “HAYTAP”, which works for animal rights in the earthquake region and throughout our country.”

“Animal Rights Federation” (HAYTAP)

HAYTAP was a platform that existed only as a virtual organization before it became a legal entity, where animal rights activists gathered. HAYTAP, which did not have a legal personality at the time, adopted the name “Animal Rights Turkey Active Power Union Platform”, i.e. HAYTAP, before 2008. The process of institutionalization and organization that started in 2006 was registered with the decision of the Istanbul Governorship in 2008. HAYTAP, which was founded with 5 associations in 2008, has official representatives, volunteers, countless supporters, and donors of 17 interconnected associations working in different provinces and districts and has project partnerships on different issues based on companies as of January 2016.

HAYTAP is a civil society movement that aims to be a strong umbrella for (correct and quality) animal rights activists in Turkey. Embracing all living creatures, HAYTAP is a power union and institutional structure with the understanding of “HAYTAP IS EVERYONE, WE ARE ALL HAYTAP”. It is a federation working on animal rights in Turkey, which can sign contracts and be considered as an addressee at the legal and state level due to its legal personality and its brand value, which is gradually increasing every year.

HAYTAP is not under the monopoly of any company, political party, or association. Its General Assembly and its representatives comprise independent people who have adopted this idea. The distribution of tasks and cooperation between existing volunteers and new applicants to join the family is the most fundamental element. For this reason, it believes that the animal rights movement should be organized by acting together with its member associations, mobilizing many people all over Turkey in the same line, using the declarations issued by the center, directing the correspondence with the administrative authorities, ensuring legal unity, acting scientifically without fighting.

Our Foundation Has Supported Red Crescent’s Earthquake Relief Campaign

Salih Tatlıcı Foundation has donated to the Red Crescent’s “Let’s Bind Up Our Wounds Together” relief campaign.

Helping earthquake victims is a humanitarian duty

Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation, said about the donation: “ 10 days have passed since the great earthquake disaster that caused great pain to our entire nation. We continue to hope for those who are waiting to be rescued from under the rubble. For those who continue to live in the region, vital needs such as shelter and heating, food, clothing, and hygiene are increasing by the day. That is why, as the Salih Tatlici Foundation, we wholeheartedly support the “Let’s Bind Up our wounds together” campaign organized by our Red Crescent, which, as always, has launched a disaster mobilization to heal the wounds of our citizens in all the disaster-stricken regions.”

The symbol of humanitarianism, impartiality, and peace: The Turkish Red Crescent

The Turkish Red Crescent Society was founded on 11 June 1868 under the name of “Society for Aiding the Wounded and Ailing Ottoman Soldiers” to help, without discrimination, soldiers wounded or ailing on the battlefield. The emblem of the Red Crescent is a light red “moon” to the left on a white background. Only on the Red Crescent flag does the open side of the “moon” face the opposite side of the flagpole.

From the Ottoman-Russian War of 1876 to the Cyprus Peace Operation of 1974, in all wars in which Turkey took part, the Red Crescent, through the mobile and fixed hospitals it established behind the front lines, the patient transport services it provided, the hospital ships it equipped, the nurses and volunteer nurses it trained, assisted in the care and treatment of tens of thousands of wounded and ailing people, assisted in the care and treatment of tens of thousands of Turkish soldiers, both friendly and enemy, wounded or ailing on the battlefield, provided the necessary humanitarian aid to prisoners of war, both Turkish and enemy, and sought to care for and protect the civilian population affected by the war.

The purpose of the Red Cross Red Crescent is to prevent or relieve human suffering wherever it occurs, without discrimination, to protect human life and health, to ensure respect for human dignity, and to promote mutual understanding, friendship, respect, cooperation, and lasting peace among people. The Red Crescent is the symbol of solidarity in times of need, equality in times of suffering, humanitarianism, impartiality, and peace in the heat of war. The Red Crescent shares the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement. These principles are humanity, non-discrimination, impartiality, independence, charity, unity, and universality. The Red Cross Red Crescent is a voluntary social service organization with a legal personality, subject to the provisions of private law, non-profit-making, providing assistance and services free of charge, and working in the public interest.

We have donated to IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation

Salih Tatlıcı Foundation has donated to the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which is risking its own life to rescue people trapped under the rubble of the worst earthquake of the century in our southeastern region.

We sincerely support organizations that serve humanity with dedication.

Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our Foundation said: “Our grief as a nation is increasing day by day due to the great earthquake disaster our country has faced. We can never munerate the rights of those who endeavored with great devotion to bringing relief to the disaster area, especially those who tried to rescue other lives from under the rubble by risking their own lives. This time, our Foundation has donated to the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which has won the affection and trust of the whole world, especially the Turkish people, for its efforts to provide humanitarian aid to all people in need anywhere in the world without discrimination of religion, language, race or sect“.

Human Rights and Freedoms and IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation was founded in Istanbul in 1995 as a result of the humanitarian activities of volunteers who could not remain indifferent to the war that broke out in Bosnia in 1992.

IHH has been working since 1992 to deliver relief to all people who are in need, who have experienced a catastrophe, who are victims of war, natural disaster, etc., or wounded, crippled, starved, homeless, and persecuted, wherever they are, regardless of their religion, language, race or sect, and to prevent the violation of the basic human rights and freedoms of those people. IHH’s volunteer activities became an official organization in 1995 and spread to five continents, building a bridge of charity from Turkey to 123 countries.

In addition to its activities in various parts of the world, from Asia to Africa, from the Balkans to the Far East, IHH also provides relief to the needy in Turkey. IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which sets a good example for the effective role of civil organizations in the construction of society, works to eliminate the grievances arising from natural disasters and continues its relief activities in Turkey with projects such as education relief, Ramadan and Qurban relief, search, and rescue and orphan support activities.

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which prioritizes the implementation of permanent projects in the regions where it operates, has been recognized by the General Directorate of Foundations of the Republic of Turkey as the “Foundation That Makes The Best Use Of Its Resources” and has been deemed worthy of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Outstanding Service Award.

We Support Our Four-Legged Friends In The Earthquake Region

As Salih Tatlıcı Foundation, we have donated to the Paw Guardians Animal Protection Association (PAW GUARDS) and Association for the Protection of Animals from Helplessness and Indifference (HAÇİKO), which make great efforts to contribute to their well-being and safety and to be the voice of our little friends who can’t speak. They work for animals in need who have been negatively affected by the great earthquake disaster in our country.

Helplessness is the same for every living creature in the world.

Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our foundation, said: “Thousands of our citizens have lost their lives and tens of thousands of our citizens are being treated in hospitals with injuries as a result of the earthquake that has hit ten provinces of our country on a large scale. In addition, millions of our citizens lost their homes and belongings. Undoubtedly, such disasters adversely affect not only children and adults but also animals. No life in the world is more valuable than another. They are all very precious. As a foundation, our support for earthquake victims continues to grow. This time we supported PAW GUARDS and HAÇİKO, one of the organizations working for animals in need in the earthquake region. I hope that neither our country nor the whole world will ever experience such a disaster again”.

Paw Guardians Animal Protection Association (PAW GUARDS)

Paw Guards is Turkey’s largest platform developed entirely for stray animals, pet owners, and animal lovers. Paw Guards was born from the words “Paw Guards” in Turkish. Its priority is to ensure that all living creatures on the streets do not starve. Paw Guards is also Turkey’s and the world’s largest online lost and found platform. When members enter a lost announcement, they can add a location. As soon as the announcement is entered, within seconds, instant notifications are sent to the location where the lost announcement is entered and the members closest to this location.

Association for the Protection of Animals from Despair and Indifference (HAÇİKO)

HAÇİKO was founded in 2010 by Ömür Gedik with the aim of becoming the most reliable association that works in all aspects related to animal rights and their protection in our country and that can influence the public and inspire the society on animal rights. All of HAÇİKO’s efforts and activities are directed towards the super-goal of bringing the understanding of the integrity of all living beings sharing the same world to our society. The activities carried out by the association within the scope of its ever-growing power aim to protect and improve the welfare of all animals, regardless of species, that have been removed from their natural habitat and to bring them back to their natural habitats. It strives to pioneer the provision of nutrition, care, and treatment of animals in need of help, to set an example, and to draw public attention to these animals. HAÇİKO, which draws its strength from individuals, organizations and public authorities who love all living creatures living in the same geography we share, works to ensure that animal rights are included in the relevant laws and regulations as they should be and is determined to be the voice of our world partners who cannot speak.

Our Foundation’s Support for AKUT

The Salih Tatlıcı Foundation has donated to the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), which aims to minimize the loss of life in such events by carrying out correct search and rescue work with an amateur and professional approach, completely voluntarily, as always in the great earthquake disaster that our country has experienced.

Our hope continues for those waiting to be rescued under the rubble.

Uğur Tatlıcı, Executive Board Member of our foundation, said: “Although more than a week has passed, all the relevant organizations continue to carry out their duties with great sacrifice, risking their lives to rescue living beings from the rubble of the buildings destroyed by the earthquake. Since the day of the disaster, we have continued to support AFAD, the most competent institution in our country in this field. This time our Foundation donated to “AKUT”, the first voluntary search and rescue association of our country, which has won the affection and trust of the whole world, especially the Turkish people, with its national and international search and rescue activities. We sincerely wish that our citizens and all living creatures waiting to be rescued under the rubble will be reunited with their loved ones as soon as possible”.

Search and Rescue Association (AKUT)

In 1994, after an unsuccessful 14-day search for 2 university students who had gone missing in the Bolkar mountains, a group of mountaineers who knew the mountains well, but had little knowledge of search and rescue, came together and founded AKUT in 1995. In the same year, this group carried out the first rescue operation in Uludağ under the name of AKUT. The association was officially established on 14 March 1996 under the name “AKUT Search and Rescue Association”. AKUT, the first Search and Rescue Association of Turkey, was founded to carry out accurate and effective search and rescue activities in mountainous and other difficult natural conditions. On 19 January 1999, AKUT was granted the status of “Public Benefit Association” by a decision of the Council of Ministers due to its usefulness in the 1998 Adana-Ceyhan earthquake. During the Marmara earthquake of 1999, AKUT, with the help of 150 volunteers, saved the lives of more than 200 people and won the affection and trust of the Turkish people.

Since 1999, AKUT has been a member of INSARAG, the Search and Rescue Advisory Board under the umbrella of the United Nations, and has become one of the most experienced and knowledgeable earthquake search and rescue teams in the world according to international standards. In 2018, AKUT completed the EU ModEX exercise, which took place at the same time as the “INSARAG” reassessment test in Montana, Bulgaria. As a result, it became the first urban search and rescue team from Turkey to join the European Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM). In 2020, it achieved another global success as the first search and rescue team from Turkey to join the European Civil Protection Pool (ECPP) within the European Civil Protection Mechanism under the European Commission.

AKUT, one of the most trusted organizations in Turkey, continues its awareness-raising activities in line with its social responsibility approach. In this context, seminar units provide “Basic Disaster Awareness” and “Earthquake Awareness” seminars, reaching 100,000 people with an average of 2,000 sessions per year.
